Joshua has been involved in healing and personal development work for over 20 years, after various health issues in the 1990’s led to a journey of self-discovery and self-healing. He has a depth of practice in various kinds of active and passive meditation techniques, yoga, music, dance, shamanic work and self-inquiry. All of this contributes either explicitly or implicitly to the work he does with individuals, and supports the healing process on different levels.
He is also a dedicated member of the Oxford community, leading regular Kirtan groups and with his partner, Sarah, founded the much-loved ethical shop Indigo on the Cowley Road.
About his work he says:
“My work is a constantly evolving medicine, rooted in the present, but calling forth the traumatic memories that need resolution. With compassionate attention, I look for the way forward in whoever is in front of me, and in the spaces between. The trauma therapy training I have done gives substance, and offer frameworks through which we can step into and navigate the unknown and challenging landscape of trauma. I also love to inquire into the deeper life questions if this is called for, and can support the integration of any insights that come into daily experience.”
“I have had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for just over a decade and have tried various therapies and processes over the years. I have found the Somatic Experiencing technique to be most effective. It works on the link between the mind and the body in a way that other therapies don’t manage, at least to such a noticeable extent.’
“Josh has helped me face some of the most difficult parts of my past, and thanks to his wonderful calming presence it has been relatively painless; something I never thought it could be.”
“Josh is a very sensitive, intuitive, intelligent and compassionate person and I have found working with him to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.”
“Josh made me feel comfortable and in the safety of his treatment room I faced childhood traumas and uncovered, addressed and healed things that were preventing me from enjoying life – lack of boundaries, low self-esteem, perfectionism, lack of self-worth, suicidal thoughts; Josh helped me to calm my erratic mind and understand myself better.”
